HISTORY

When our company was founded in 1961, we engaged principally in marine electronics, radio, radar, sonar etc.   By 1965 we had turned more towards marine and industrial engineering. We have specialised in the Detroit Diesel and EMD two-stroke range of engines since we started working with ex-wartime units in 1968, but we have continued our work for other manufacturers, providing services to numerous other companies’ service departments, particularly on occasions when the failure demands specialist capabilities.

In the late ‘60s we moved to a disused quarry at Galmpton Creek, by the river Dart. In 1968 we bought a local crane hire company and in 1972, we opened a separate sandblasting division, supplying services widely throughout the south-west.  In the mid  ‘70s we started to manufacture special purpose generating equipment and in 1983 we acquired a local boat and abnormal load transport company.

In 1975, we became dealers for the Power and Industrial division of General Motors, representing them in sales and service of Detroit Diesel engines and Allison transmissions. We began to travel further afield, initially to the France, Spain, Balearics and Italy, and later to Africa and Asia, particularly Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt and Turkey, the Americas and Australasia.  By 1990, we had sold the cranes, sandblasting and transport to concentrate on our specialist engineering work.

Our chief consultant engineer, Mr Mike Ball has for many years been looked upon as one of the leading specialists on Detroit Diesel two-stroke engines, on which he has worked in many countries since the late ‘60s.
